Call for participation

Atelier of Alexandria Assembly of Artists and Writers has a pleasure to
inform interesting and serious youth artists under 35 years old to 2nd
International Annual Youth Salon on 16 April 2007 till 30 April 2007.

Who can apply: youth Artists from all regions of the world (specially Arab
world, Africa, Mediterranean and Europe).

Discipline: Painting, Drawing, Graphic, Sculpture, Installation, Video Art,
Photography, Music, Performance, Writers.
Age: under 35 years old.
Deadline and Closing date for applications:
- 31 December 2006.Applications should be received before the deadline.
- Through January 2007 the selection artists will be inform by e-mail.

DEVICE ART

Device_art refers to art production based on creative use of new or old technologies, including kinetic and mechanic works, computer art and cyber systems – inventions, gadgets, mechanisms, analog or digital technology based machines, robots, net.art. The aim of Device_art exhibition is to unite art works based on technology, to contextualize this kind of production and incite relevant theoretical discourse. The inclusion of non-artistic production in the exhibition opens the space for comparison and discussion about the two distinguished positions.

The call for applications refers to mechanisms based on analogous or digital technology, concepts relying on creative or inventive use of new and old media, robots, archaic devices, kinetic – optical works, interactive works, live hacks – i.e. any works related to technology or science. The justification for isolating technology based art is in the need for reflection on the immersion of all aspects of contemporary life in technological environments. The subject the work thematizes is open and it is not necessary for the work to have artistic qualities. Besides artists, we invite anyone involved in constructing and producing devices to apply and suggest works for the exhibition.
