Werner Fenz, art historian, curator, professor, University Graz

Marina Grzinic, artist, theoretician, professor, Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna

Mind the Map! – History is Not Given
A CRITICAL ANTHOLOGY based on the Symposium

Edited by Marina Grzinic, Günther Heeg und Veronika Darian

The book is a collaborative publishing project by the Institute of Theatre Studies of the University of Leipzig, Irwin, Ljubljana and “relations,” Berlin
Distributed by revolver, 2006

The book presents the theoretical and artistic positions by young scholars, professors and artists who participated in the symposium that has been held in October 2005 in Leipzig. The book includes a dozen of additionally commissioned theoretical and critical texts and art works. With the book a matrix that represents a densely-woven structure of information on specific and, frequently, less known artistic and cultural processes, products and realities is constructed.

Contributors in the book: Beatrice von Bismarck, Ekaterina Degot, Werner Fenz, Frassanito Network, Roman Grabner, RaloMayer / Philipp Haupt, Anna Rogozinska, Marina Vishmidt, Ana Vujanovic, Clemens von Wedemeyer, Michael Wehren, Jacek Zydorowicz, among others.

At 14.00 until 18.00

Borut Vogelnik and Andrej Savski, members of the group Irwin, Ljubljana, will present

and discuss the group long and powerful history and its present artistic interventions, strategies and politics of representation.

The Irwin group was founded in 1983 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The group consists of five artists: Dusan Mandic, Miran Mohar, Andrej Savski, Roman Uranjek and Borut Vogelnik.

Irwin was co-founder of Neue Slowenische Kunst (NSK), a collective composed of the music group Laibach, the theater group Sester Scipion Nasice, the designer group New Collectivism, etc. Alongside other activities, Irwin have been engaged in a series of projects which have actively and concretely intervened in social and historical contexts in the decade that redefined the status of art in Eastern Europe (Kapital, NSK Embassy Moscow, Transnacionala, East Art Map).

In recent decades, Eastern Europe has undergone rapid changes in its political and economic dogmas and it is now among the most significant areas for the production of contemporary culture. EAST ART MAP tells the region’s compelling histories in different ways, based on a selection of key artworks and artists.
