WHITE NATURE LECTURE by Rosa Reitsamer

We are NOT just human! But racialised and engendered, marked by relations of power! In the lecture Rosa Reitsamer negotiated racial representations of whiteness in
visual arts and music, and discussed whiteness as a visible position of power. Which freedom do white male and white female artists gain from their white skin color and
their privileges in society? Which possibilities do we have to explore whiteness
in visual arts? To use the notion of whiteness means to bring about a shift in visual arts towards a different focus, beyond only "white" culture.

The works of Toni Morrisson, bell hooks, Stuart Hall and others make clear
that white discourses reduce the non-white subjects only in the function of the
white subjects. Images produces by whites are not seen as racialised. Several terms such as Black Music and Black popular culture point out to this absence of discussion. Does not exist only ONE history of music, art, culture and society, but several of them! (Some points from the lecture of Reitsamer!)

There'll be a dvd documentation in a couple of days.
