Die Autorinnen und Autoren dieses Buches thematisieren vier Kategorien, entlang derer ein Anders-Machen vorgenommen wird: Gender, Race, Sprache und Religion. Und gleichzeitig auch die Ambivalenzen, die das Leben von marginalisierten Menschen vor dem Hintergrund der Dominanz einer imaginierten männlich-weiß-heteronormativ-deutsch-katholischen Identitätskonstruktion prägen. Einige der Beiträge in diesem Buch erörtern, was es bedeutet, als „Andere“ markiert zu werden und wie dieses „Andere“ unterdrückt und unsichtbar gemacht wird.

Dr. Farid Hafez wird zusammen mit Noomi Anyanwu, Ali Dönmez und Sladjana Mirković über das Buch sprechen.

Moderation: Asma Aiad und Marina Grzinic

Dr. Farid Hafez (geboren 1981 in Ried im Innkreis) ist ein österreichischer Politikwissenschaftler. Hafez ist seit 2014 wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter und Dozent am Institut für Politikwissenschaft der Universität Salzburg und seit 2017 Senior Research Fellow an der Georgetown University. Nach Razzien gegen die Muslimbruderschaft in Österreich am 9. November 2020 wurde Hafez als einer der mehr als 70 Verdächtigen. Im August 2021, gegen Hafez oder einen anderen Verdächtigen der Operation Luxor wurde keine Anklage erhoben.

Noomi Anyanwu ist Sprecherin und Co-Initiatorin des Black Voices Volksbegehren. Aktuell fordert das Volksbegehren in einem offenen Brief und Museen und Politik die Thematisierung von kolonialen Strukturen.

Ali Dönmez ist Muslim und arbeitet als Logopäde in Wiener Neustadt. Zudem ist er auch Lehrer für Deutsch als Zweit- und Fremdsprache.

Sladjana Mirković, BA, ist Serbisch-Österreichische Romni, geboren 1988 in Wien. Präsidentin der im April 2021 gegründeten HochschülerInnenschaft österreichischer Roma und Romnja (HÖR). Gemeinsam mit fünf Kollegen möchte Mirković die Bildungsinteressen junger Roma in Österreich vertreten und dabei die Sichtbarkeit von studierenden Roma an der Uni erhöhen.

Dr.in Marina Grzinic (geboren 1958) ist Professorin Konzeptkunst Fach Bereit/IBK/ Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien. Promotion in Philosophie, Wissenschaftlicherin, Künstlerin; seit 1982 arbeiten mit Medien und Video Kunst.

Muslim*Contemporary versteht sich als multidisziplinäres, partizipatives und dialogisches Projekt, das den Stellenwert der Partizipation der muslimischen Communities in der österreichischen Gesellschaft durch Bildung, Kunst, Dialog, Aktivismus und Kultur reflektieren soll. Ziel ist es, Räume zu schaffen, in denen wichtige gesellschaftliche Diskurse reflektiert und durch Repräsentationen verhandelt werden können. Der Dialog in diesen Räumen soll nicht nur über die ausgestellten Gegenstände und Installationen stattfinden, sondern im wahrsten Sinn des Wortes (διάλογος diálogos) ein Ort des Gesprächs werden. Ziel ist es durch verschiedene Formate Diskussions- und Debattenräume zu eröffnen. Dort kann zugehört, gefragt und verhandelt werden. Wie wollen wir leben? Artist talk by Ramon Esono Ebalé.

Organized by the Studio for Post-Conceptual Art Practices /IBK/ prof. Marina Grzinic in collaboration with UNI WIEN/ prof. Max Doppelbauer.

Ramon Esono Ebalé was born in Micomeseng in northern Equatorial Guinea. He is largely self-taught, but also received drawing lessons at the Centro Cultural de España in Malabo. He received awards such as the Regarde 9 at the International Comics Festival in Angoulême and from the Africa and Mediterranean magazine in Bologna. On the Internet, Ebalé worked for the webzine Las Locuras de Jamón y Queso. He worked on the film Un día vi 10.000 elefantes and was exhibited in Paraguay and El Salvador.

In addition to his career as a commercial artist, Ebalé is concerned with the deep inequality in Equatorial Guinea and with Teodoro Obiang, the dictator since 1979. Ebalé moved to Paraguay in 2011. In 2014, using dialog written by an anonymous collaborator in Malabo, Ebalé drew the graphic novel La pesadilla de Obi (Obi's Nightmare). It was funded by the non-governmental organization EGJustice. The book is described as "a satirical day in the life imagining what it would be like for Obiang himself to wake up as an unemployed, mindless husband in one of Malabo's desolate slums, accustomed as he is to the unbridled control of his country's economy." With no means of legal distribution in Equatorial Guinea, the Spanish edition of the book sub rosa was distributed by private individuals.

In September 2017, Ebalé was arrested in Malabo and detained in the notorious Black Beach prison. He was released in March 2018 after a police officer admitted to falsely accusing him on the instructions of his superiors.

In November 2017, the Cartoonists Rights Network, International presented Ebalé with its annual Courage in Editorial Cartooning award to draw attention to his incarceration.

In November 2021, he came to Vienna at the invitation of Max Doppelbauer to create a project commemorating the Day of the Imprisoned Writer on NOV 15, and the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on NOV 25. The project is titled Between Two Days. Ramón painted a GIANT portrait of Guinean writer and LTGBQ+ activist Melibea Obono and they carried the portrait through Vienna and together to AKBild in Lehargasse 8, where it would be exhibited for 10 days – from NOV 15 to NOV 25.

It was a historical momentum, the narrative of almost3 hours, the dialogues in between us, the flow of experiences thatwas orally transmitted to us from powerful zapatistas indegenous womenrepresentatives was emotional, to learn and unlearn, to be taken through histories and a history of formation, insurgent struggles, LIFE and the good government.

We were a lucky bunch to get sooooo much, to use, maybe, we have to unlearn a lot, this for our communities and convivialities in many possible ways, to understandthe power of life and strategy, to nurture respect and support...

Art is not a tool that can be used for a certain innocent production process and distribution of images and knowledge. Education is not a transparent machine for the production and circulation of skills.

Asma Aiad and Ju Yoo, Invisible Women. The title is inspired by the book written by Caroline Criado Perez. How many women are hidden and unseen in our daily lives and in society? How many are made invisible? Our work – an installation and a film – is also a conceptual rethinking of the capacity of public space to remember and pay tribute to those who matter but are not recognized in our society.

LECTURE The Aesthetics of SerialityRIZVANA BRADLEY (UC BERKLEY)

Guest lecture by Rizvana Bradley organized by the Conceptual Art Studio/ IBK/ Prof. Marina Grzinic/ in the context of »Ringvorlesung IBK« Summer Semester 2021.

Moving between discussions of film, photography, drawing, painting, and performance, this talk offers a meditation on the relationship between aesthetic seriality and violence. Specifically, it aims to think about seriality in relation to questions of violence, dispossession, affect, and gesture to address the abstract refrains of fugitivity, flight, and refusal within black aesthetics.

CV: Dr. Rizvana Bradley is Assistant Professor of Film and Media at UC Berkeley. Before coming to UC Berkeley, Bradley was an Assistant Professor in the History of Art and African American Studies at Yale University. Her scholarship and writing on contemporary art, film, and media has been published in Discourse: Journal for Theoretical Studies in Media and Culture, Black Camera: An International Film Journal, and Film Quarterly, as well as other journals. She curated a number of academic arts symposia, including events at the British Film Institute, London, the Serpentine Gallery, London, and most recently, the Stedelijk Museum of Art, Amsterdam.

Organized in collaboration with the Performative Digital LAB of the project Smashing Wor(l)ds: Cultural Practices for re/Imagining & un/Learning Vocabularies, supported by Creative Europe and led by kulturen in bewegung, an initiative by VIDC, Vienna.

Belly of the Beast – Disobedience, Decoloniality and Class Struggle The question of class remains central to the Southern African Decolonial movements and Fallism, globally.

Cv: Nomusa Makhubu (BFA, MA, PhD, PGDHE, Rhodes University) is an art historian and artist based at the University of Cape Town. She is the recipient of the ABSA L’Atelier Gerard Sekoto Award (2006) and the Prix du Studio National des Arts Contemporain, Le Fresnoy (2014). Makhubu is the chairperson of Africa South Art Initiative (ASAI). She is a member of the South African Young Academy of Science (SAYAS). Makhubu is an American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS-AHP) fellow and was a research fellow of the Omooba Yemisi Adedoyin Shyllon Art Foundation (OYASAF) in Nigeria, Lagos. She is the chairperson of the Africa South Art Initiative (ASAI). Makhubu was a committee member of the National Arts Festival. She was a recipient of the CAA-Getty travel award in 2014. She co-edited a Third Text Special Issue: ‘The Art of Change’ (2013) and later co-curated the international exhibition, Fantastic, in 2015. Her current research focuses on African popular culture, photography, interventionism, live art and socially-engaged art. Trauma in the Digital Age. The Representation, Transmission, and Processing of Trauma on Social Media

Guest lecture by Anna Menyhért (Budapest) organized by the Conceptual Art Studio/ IBK/ Prof. Marina Grzinic, Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.

Since the 2000s, social media networks have introduced major changes in the way people are regularly exposed to content related to the traumatic experiences of others (wars, catastrophes, individual disasters, violence, and rape). Social media provides information even in cases which mainstream (state-run) media do not cover. Exposure to traumatic content may have an unsettling effect on users, but social media is also used for processing trauma. This project investigates the representation, transmission, and processing of trauma – individual as well as collective, historical, and intergenerational – in the digital environment.The project focusses on how each digital media platform shapes trauma-related communication according to their affordances. It draws on case studies linked to different social media platforms including Facebook groups related to the Holocaust; transnational migratory trauma in Hungarian migrants’ blogs; contemporary implications of the Treaty of Trianon as transmitted via YouTube; the resilience of gender-based trauma victims in connection with the #MeToo campaign on Twitter; and a comparative analysis of bystander behaviour during the Holocaust and in a digital context, including the study of cyberbullying on Facebook and Instagram.

CV: Anna Menyhért is Professor of Trauma Studies at the Budapest University of Jewish Studies. From 2016 to 2018, she was a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Research Fellow at the University of Amsterdam. Previously, she led the Trauma and Gender in Literature and Culture Research Group at Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest. Her research interests include trauma studies, social media studies, memory studies, critical theory, and women’s writing.

Organized in collaboration with Vienna Wiesenthal Institute for Holocaust Studies /Das Wiener Wiesenthal Institut für Holocaust-Studien (VWI).

November 2020 fand in Wien ein Anschlag statt, bei dem vier Menschen getötet wurden. Gemeinsam diskutieren wir darüber, welche Auswirkungen diese traumatische Erfahrung auf unser Zusammenleben hat.
