At 15.00-20.00 with pause and food Workshop B4 will be a collaboration between Grzinic and 2 scholars Mag. Polina Baitsym (Ukraine) and dr. Saša Kesić (Belgrade) that are in the winter semester 2022/2023 in PCAP (Studio Post-conceptual Art Practices). Mag. Baitsym (Ukraine) researcher in PCAP for her doctorate will focus on art in Ukraine before the war and after, the implication on art history, etc. the avant-gardes on the relation Russia /the Soviet period - Ukraine in the 20 century. Dr. Kesić (Belgrade) will discuss main points of what he developed in his research regarding definitions of queer, homonationalism, pinkwashing. Examples from art and theory regarding pride parade and geopolitics will be exposed. They will both develop discourses, and visuals touching the theme of former Eastern Europe, specifically Ukraine-Russia/the Soviets and former Yugoslavia/Serbia. The Soviet Union, officially the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), was a transcontinental country that spanned much of Eurasia from 1922 to 1991. The goal is, historically and presently, to discard the psychotic systematic violence against the Lgbtqi+ community /Serbia/ or to see the relations of the Soviet Modernism in Ukraine, in the light of the aggression on Ukraine. CVs Polina Baitsym is an art historian and curator specializing in the history of Ukrainian Soviet visual arts. Currently, she is a PhD Candidate in Comparative History at Central European University (Budapest, Hungary/Vienna, Austria) and curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art NGO (MOCA) Library, Kyiv, Ukraine. In 2018, Baitsym launched a research initiative dedicated to Ukrainian children’s illustration of the 1960-1990s, within which she curated two exhibitions in 2019. In 2020, she published a book Ukraine: Art for Architecture: Ukraine: Soviet Modernist Mosaics 1960 to 1990 /in collaboration with Yevgen Nikiforov/ Dom Publishers. Presently affiliated with the Studio for Post-conceptual Art Practices. Saša Kesić is an art teacher and independent researcher from Belgrade, Serbia. He received his PhD from the Department of Theory of Arts and Media, University of Arts in Belgrade in 2016. In 2020, he published the book Tako se kalio kvir… u savremenoj istočnoevropskoj umetnosti i kulturi (That’s How the Queer Grew ... in Contemporary Eastern European Art and Culture), in which he connected queer, performativity and presentation. In 2022 he has been awarded a one-year (01.07.2022 to 30.06.2023) Scholarship of the Scholarship Foundation of the Republic of Austria Postdoc, by Austria’s Agency for Education and Internationalisation (OeAD), for the research project “Conviviality of the Queer Community Austria-Serbia: Learning from the Austrian Practice”, which he currently does at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien), in the Post-Conceptual Art Studio, Prof. Marina Gržinić, Institute of Fine Arts.
