Both books, though differently, reflect on the project EAST ART MAP by the Slovenian fine arts group Irwin. EAST ART MAP is a project that tracks back in history (over the past 50 years) the art works and cultural processes in the territory once known as the Eastern Europe. The books will be presented by Irwin (Borut Vogelnik and Andrej Savski), artists, Ljubljana Werner Fenz, art historian, curator, professor, University Graz Marina Grzinic, artist, theoretician, professor, Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna Katrin Klingan, artistic director, “relations”, Berlin Ralo Mayer and Philipp Haupt, artists, Vienna Andreas Spiegl, critic, writer, vice-Rector, Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna The speakers will be introduced by Barbara Holub, president of the Secession. East Art Map: Contemporary Art and Eastern Europe Edited by IRWIN An Afterall Book, Great Britain Distributed by MIT Press, 2006 East Art Map: Contemporary Art and Eastern Europe surveys the extraordinary artistic landscape of the eastern half of the European continent. It is an ambitious attempt to reconstruct some of the hidden histories of contemporary art and offers compelling discoveries for readers based both outside and within these geographic limits. Contributors in the book: Lutz Becker, Boris Groys/Anton Vidokle, Erden Kosov, Viktor Missiano, Suzana Milevska, Susan Buck-Morss, Edi Muka, Ana Peraica, Andreas Spiegl, Branka Stipancic, Slavoj Zizek, among others. Mind the Map! – History is Not Given A CRITICAL ANTHOLOGY based on the Symposium Edited by Marina Grzinic, Günther Heeg und Veronika Darian The book is a collaborative publishing project by the Institute of Theatre Studies of the University of Leipzig, Irwin, Ljubljana and “relations,” Berlin Distributed by revolver, 2006 The book presents the theoretical and artistic positions by young scholars, professors and artists who participated in the symposium that has been held in October 2005 in Leipzig. The book includes a dozen of additionally commissioned theoretical and critical texts and art works. With the book a matrix that represents a densely-woven structure of information on specific and, frequently, less known artistic and cultural processes, products and realities is constructed. Contributors in the book: Beatrice von Bismarck, Ekaterina Degot, Werner Fenz, Frassanito Network, Roman Grabner, RaloMayer / Philipp Haupt, Anna Rogozinska, Marina Vishmidt, Ana Vujanovic, Clemens von Wedemeyer, Michael Wehren, Jacek Zydorowicz, among others. 12, DECEMBER 2006 TUESDAY INDIVIDUAL MEETINGS 9.30 to 12.30 OFFICE GRZINIC 12, DECEMBER 2006 TUESDAY SEMINAR ON CONTEMPORARY EASTERN EUROPEAN ART /PART 2 Academy of Fine Arts Lehargasse 8, 1060 - Vienna ROOM M1 /POST CONCEPTUAL ART PRACTICES At 14.00 until 18.00 Borut Vogelnik and Andrej Savski, members of the group Irwin, Ljubljana, will present and discuss the group long and powerful history and its present artistic interventions, strategies and politics of representation. The Irwin group was founded in 1983 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The group consists of five artists: Dusan Mandic, Miran Mohar, Andrej Savski, Roman Uranjek and Borut Vogelnik. Irwin was co-founder of Neue Slowenische Kunst (NSK), a collective composed of the music group Laibach, the theater group Sester Scipion Nasice, the designer group New Collectivism, etc. Alongside other activities, Irwin have been engaged in a series of projects which have actively and concretely intervened in social and historical contexts in the decade that redefined the status of art in Eastern Europe (Kapital, NSK Embassy Moscow, Transnacionala, East Art Map). In recent decades, Eastern Europe has undergone rapid changes in its political and economic dogmas and it is now among the most significant areas for the production of contemporary culture. EAST ART MAP tells the region’s compelling histories in different ways, based on a selection of key artworks and artists. PRESENTATION OF THE BOOKS AND THE SEMINAR ARE OPEN TO GENERAL PUBLIC.
