Subhabrata Bobby Banerjee

Live and Let Die: Colonial Sovereignties and the Death Worlds of Necrocapitalism

“In this paper I develop the concept of necrocapitalism by discussing contemporary forms of organizational accumulation that involve dispossession and the subjugation of life to the power of death. Drawing on the works of Agamben (1998, 2005) and Mbembe (2003) I discuss how some contemporary capitalist practices contribute to this subjugation of life. I discuss some ideological formations of necrocapitalist practices and examine what kind of social relations are disrupted and destroyed as a result of these practices. I discuss the organization and management of global violence and explore the rise of the privatized military and its use in the so-called war on terror.” (Banerjee)

GUEST LECTURE WITH FILM PROGRAM by

MAREIKE BERNIEN + KERSTIN SCHROEDINGER

TITLE: Der Zustand des Bildes blieb seitdem unverändert.

poststrukturalistischer Philosophinnen.

Hamburg; lebt in Hamburg.

Kerstin Schroedinger: 2001-2007 Studium Visuelle Kommunikation/Medien an der
HfbK Hamburg; lebt in Hamburg.

FILM PROGRAM:

Testbild by Mareike Bernien, 12min, 2007;

Prozesse eingehen.

Anstatt dass by Kerstin Schroedinger, 11 min., 2007;

Man sieht also Bilder, in denen

OTHER FILM EXCERPTS

Mit Film- und Hörstückausschnitten von Heiner Müller, Heinz Emigholz, Hito
Steyerl, Leonore Mau und Hubert Fichte, Yvonne Rainer u.a.

FILM BONUS/BEFORE MIDNIGHT:

Blue by Derek Jarman, 1993, 79 min.

Jarman's "Blue," a feature consisting entirely of a blue screen with
voice-overs, has succeeded in annoying viewers with its seemingly
uninventive approach to the cinematic personal narrative. Jarman's story is
one that does not need visuals to support it. Reflecting upon his life in
the face of his rapidly approaching death, Jarman's memories and meditations
offer the viewer (listener, really) a window into the soul of a director who
is losing the most important sense he could posses: his sight. Blue was the
last colour available to him before AIDS related complications robbed him of
his sight. As he stands before death and stares it straight in the face,
Jarman's writings put forth a surprising feeling of calmness, as he has
accepted his own finitude and shares his meditations with us in this, his
last masterpiece.

Wiener Musikszenen im Fokus der Geschlechterdifferenz

Gastvortrag: Rosa Reitsamer | Soziologin, Wien

GUEST LECTURE by Fahim Amir

TITLE: Die Regierung der Zeit

permanent verhandelt, politische Vektoren inklusive.

videophilosophischen Bestimmung postfordistischer Zeitwahrnehmung.

The debates around education are shifting. In Europe, questions of coordinated systems with comparable outcomes seem to dominate the Concerned discussion around the forthcoming "Bologna" accord. While much critical opposition focuses on the loss of local traditions and fears of global homogenization - both sets of responses serve only to fetishize Knowledge within a commodity economy of education. In actuality numerous non-aligned initiatives are converging around "education", recognizing that it is equally a platform for cultural actualisation and self organization.

In Mai 2007 various projects, initiatives and protagonists from the Fields of art, culture and political activism are going to gather in Berlin for an extraordinary conference: SUMMIT is a proposal to question and to change some of the fundamental terms of the debate around education, knowledge production and information society.

The background idea, the programm and themes of the SUMMIT will be presented and discussed. summit.kein.org

The Monster Precariat
As is so often the case with the spread and development of new terms, the explosive expansion of the conceptual field of precarity – precarization – precariat (cf. Frassanito Network, “Precarious, Precarization, Precariat?”, cf. Angela Mitropoulos, “Precari-Us?”) in recent years has led to considerable confusion. It is hardly surprising that in the course of the emergence of the social movement, for which this conceptual field has become the most important reference, there have been different valuations of the central terms again and again, as well as shifts of meaning depending on the social, geographical and temporal context. Even in the mobilization context of the Euromayday movement, an intensive process of exchange has been and is still needed to ensure a reasonably precise differentiation of the conceptual field. And if the Euromayday parades in many European cities in recent years have renewed the resistive practice of May 1st, in the processes that accompany them these parades are not only to be regarded as attempts to politically organize the precarious, but also – both prior to this and beyond it – as information campaigns about issues of precarization, as instruments of collective knowledge production, as militant research into contemporary ways of living and working.

This is the first lecture of 3/ Rosa Reitsamer (in collaboration with IKL/Akbild) and Fahim Amir (part of Petja Dimitrova seminar in May 2007) on the topic of “Knowledge, precarity, queer, labour” organized at PCAP.
